(1) About us

Soon after the completion of human genome project (HGP) in 2005, modern biomedical research has entered a post-genomic era. Based on the HGP results, the researchers learned that not all of the diseases, especially the late-onset ones like cancer, were only driven by the genetic causes and developed the “Epigenomics” to pursuit a better detection, cure and prevention of these diseases. Epigenomics is a multi-disciplinary study that united the studies from Genetics, Tissue and Cell Biology, Molecular, Developmental Biology and Biomedical researches together. It also employed the methodology and technology from Mathematics/Statistics, Informatics/Bioinformatics and System Biology to develop models from fundamental observations and researches. Reiteration of the observation/researches → model searches facilitates the epigenomic researches greatly.

To promote and lead the epigenomic researches in Taiwan, National Chung Cheng University has established the first “Epigenomics Research Center” in Asia and focused our studies on the uncovering of epigenomic causes of diseases and developing the related new detection/therapy methods.

(2) Aims

Human Epigenomics Research Center aims to establish the followings:

Establish the tissue and biomaterials banks that are related to local disease with nearby hospitals.

Profile and establish the epigenomic biomarkers and bioinformatic databases.

Establish drug development/screening models, including the animal models, for the epigenomic therapy for the local diseases.

Develop new epigenomic methods, tools, materials and therapy for local diseases with the other Departments in National Chung Cheng University.

Establish a united R&D platform that could be used to probe other diseases.

(3) Trainings

Our trainings focus on:

Bioinformatics and database management.

Translational biomedical studies.

Epigenomic drug screening and development.

(4) Facilities

We have four core facilities that support the necessary R&D:

Tissue and sample collection core.

Epigenomic profiling core.

Bioinformatic core.

In vivo R&D core.
